The Need
In Northern Uganda, immense poverty has created a crisis for children living with painful and even life-threatening medical conditions. This rural region suffered from long periods of conflict which severely damaged its medical infrastructure. The one main hospital, located in Lira, still lacks both hospital staff and even the most basic supplies like sutures, denying countless children with urgent medical needs a chance at a full and healthy life.
Our Response
In September, LWB held a pediatric surgery mission in Lira, providing over 700 children with life-changing operations. While we celebrate that success, the need here is overwhelming. Our CEO recently visited the region and learned over 1,800 kids had traveled to the hospital for our last surgery camp, desperate for a chance at healing. Hundreds of children had to be turned away because every surgery slot had been filled.
They remain in agonizing pain.
We have made the decision to hold another Pediatric Surgery Mission to clear the current waiting list of children. Dr. Charles Odongo, the only pediatric surgeon at the hospital, which serves a staggering 3 million people, has put out an SOS to doctors throughout Uganda to come to Lira for this special mission. They have answered his call and are ready to travel north. Because many pediatric medical supplies are not readily available in this region, LWB team members will personally source and transport every essential item from the capital city of Kampala to ensure the mission is safe and successful.

If we can raise the necessary funds this week, however, every child on the waiting list
can receive their critical operations.
